During a conversation today, a family member said something to me that kind of stung. My kids were talking about how sometimes I get emotional when I drink and this person said, “I don’t think my kid has ever seen me drunk.” It was one of those moments that kind of just feels like a punch to the gut. As I was driving, I was able to process why this comment bothered me so much. I realized that I felt judged. It was at that moment that I realized how often I censor myself around the people I love. I realize that part of censoring myself is also being a mature adult and not responding to an immature comment but sometimes I just want to call the bullshit out. I wanted to say, “Do you think you’re better than me because your kid hasn’t seen you drunk and mine have?” But what good would have come from that response? Absolutely nothing. During my drive, the idea came to me to create this page. It’s a way of not only documenting and analyzing my own thoughts but also sharing them with the world to call the bullshit out while also protecting my peace in my everyday life.
